The Schloemann 30,000-tonne forging press

Schloemann AG of Düsseldorf built this hydraulic die-forging press for I.G. Farben's light-metal works at Bitterfeld. From 1943 to 1945 it forged propeller blades, wing-spar caps and other light-alloy parts for German aircraft.

The tour shows the press at full scale, above the floor and down in its pit, and follows a stroke: water at up to 450 atmospheres on eight rams gives it a force of 30,000 tonnes. You can also read the history of these presses.
